Accessibility

Neighborhood

Our home is located in the rural mountains 7-10 minutes from the heart of downtown Lansing. We do have neighbors dotted along the winding roads that lead to our home. Only one neighbor's home is visible from our house.

Guest Access

The house is located along a state-maintained back country road that is kept plowed during snows and we have a short accessible driveway. Although 4WD is common in the mountains, it isn't necessary to access our home. Guests have access to the entire home and exterior amenities with the exception of the basement and the owners closet in the second bunk room. The indoor wood-buring fire stove is not available for guest use, but you can use the fire pit outside. The A-frame cabin is a private getaway space from the house included in your booking. With full views of the meadow it is outfitted with a workspace (desk/chair) power, 600mb Fiber internet, a space heater, rug, yoga mats and blocks. There is parking for up to 4 cars, and an EV charger located under the carport in the driveway.

LOCATION DETAILS 8 min to downtown Lansing 20-25 min to downtown West Jefferson & Jefferson 25 min to Ingles Grocery store 30 min to Grayson Highlands State Park 45 min to Boone 45 min to Whitetop trailhead of Virginia Creeper Trail 60 min to Damascus trailhead of Virginia Creeper Trail THE PROPERTY Wanderin Lands is 105 acres of land in beautiful Ashe County NC. A state maintained back country road runs through the property. Upon arrival you'll find our home accessible from a short gravel driveway directly off that road. Orchard trees and an arbor of grape vines line the driveway. Through the home, you'll take in views of our 16 acre meadow and hear sounds of the burbling creek at the treeline where the meadow rises to hillsides. Out back is a large deck and screened porch with cafe lights and outdoor speakers. The deck also houses the hot tub, barrel cedar sauna, outdoor shower, gas grill, and el fresco dining for 8. Beyond the deck is the solo stove fire pit and private A-frame cabin designed as a work/meditation/yoga space. Stretching to the west is a private grass trail that weaves around a portion of our 105 acres - out along the creek side and loops back to the house (about a .5 mile walk in all). THE HOME We appreciate the simplicity of Scandinavian design with its cozy minimalism to bring peace to the mind and refocus on the beauty of the surroundings. Thoughtful views from every window, dim-able lighting in every room, and comfortable furniture nurture rest and relaxation. Inside, our home provides multiple open areas to gather if visiting with family or friends, as well as private spaces to be alone and reflect. LIVING SPACES We have an open floor plan connecting our kitchen/dining/living spaces. Our fully equipped kitchen with island seating for 4, overlooks a large dining table for 8. The adjacent living space has two supple leather sofas that orient to views of the meadow and hillsides. When not taking in the views, our Samsung Gallery TV allows for streaming from all popular apps. Beyond the dining area through the glass sliders is our screened porch with 2 additional sofas for relaxing, reading or napping (our favorite). The porch and deck are outfitted with speakers and cafe lights. Enjoy soft tunes or the burbling sound of the creek while taking in the sunset or wildlife (red-winged blackbirds & deer) over the meadow. Occasionally you will also catch the sound of cars passing on the nearby road that carves through our 105 acre property. ROOMS All bedrooms have bright natural light in the daytime and blackout blinds for great sleep. Each room also includes dim-able lighting, ceiling fans, USB plugs, a sound machine with 10+ sound options for lulling to restful sleep. All rooms are purposely TV free and outfitted with plenty of storage — A closet in all bedrooms, dresser in each primary room, and cubbie cabinet in each bunk room. Beds were chosen for extreme comfort – Many of our reviews confirm this! Room 1 - 1 Queen Primary en suite with a private bathroom & deep soaking tub. Amazing place! My daughter and I were grateful for some time to relax together. We popped into town to the cute coffee place and walked around in the park across the street. This cabin has so much to offer, it’s so very peaceful. Gorgeous views, immaculately clean, well, equipped kitchen, plenty of space.

We had a wonderful stay! The property was peaceful with a great walking trail around the property- you should totally make a trail going up to the top of that hill (not sure if you own it but would be a cool idea). We loved the sauna and the hot tub, it was very clean and she was so responsive when I was having issues with it. There was plenty of space for us and our 2-year-old, and we really appreciated the thoughtful toddler-friendly touches like plates and other items that made traveling with a little one so much easier. We’d definitely stay again!

What an amazing place to stay! The location was great, read secluded, and we had easy drives to a bunch of cool spots. East drive to bigger town for groceries was also helpful. The kitchen is fully equipped and the hot tub and sauna were awesome. The house itself is very upscale and we loved the aesthetic. Thank you!

We had a very pleasant stay, welcomed with a personalized touch of fresh local coffee beans. Attention to detail was evident, as my husband is a serious coffee drinker. The walkable trail was particularly enjoyable in the morning with a cup of coffee. We also appreciated the sauna and the fully equipped kitchen. We look forward to staying again when we need a quick getaway.

This is one of the best places I've stayed. If there was a way to give 10 stars, I'd do it. The actual house is beautiful and has everything you need. The interior spaces are comfortable, warm and relaxing. The exterior spaces are the icing on the cake. We were in the sauna and hot tub at least once a day, and the property has a great walking trail that runs down by a stream. We used the A-frame for work, yoga and peaceful retreat. We got to the property and never left for the 3 days we were there. Last, Lara was an exceptional host. The area got hit with a snowstorm the day we were supposed to arrive. Lara worked with us to shift our dates at no additional cost to us. She was incredibly responsive and made sure everything was perfect for our stay. 10 out of 10.

We had the most wonderful stay at this beautifully designed, light-filled mountain home overlooking the meadow. It truly felt like a home away from home and had everything we needed and more. We stayed over Thanksgiving week and the kitchen was incredibly well stocked, plus the grill was pristine. The screened-in porch and deck with string lights were magical, and the steam sauna was such a treat. The beds were comfy, the linens were cozy, and everything was spotless. Thoughtful touches like the Fellow tea kettle, sound machines, and dimmable lighting made the home feel special. Downtown Lansing is small but full of charming gems like the park, the General Store with amazing biscuit sandwiches and coffee, and Squirrel & Nut for unique art. West Jefferson, a bit farther, feels like a Hallmark town - Hatchet Coffee, The Spice & Tea Exchange, and Havana Cafe were all favorites. We can’t wait to come back and make more memories in the Scandi Cabin Meadow Home!

Sometimes you find places that you want to tell all of your friends and family about because it is the perfect location perfect decor, and perfect host. And then you think again and you say wait, if I share this, that means everybody’s going to come here. That’s the dilemma with this beautiful home in a stunning meadow in the mountains of North Carolina. As soon as you step in you feel at home. Everything is ready for you from the sauna to the hot tub to the porch to the meadow outside of the deck and the mountains cocooning you into a peaceful and luxurious retreat. I can’t recommend this enough and then again I don’t want anybody else to go because we want to go again.

My wife and I wanted to get away for a couple days when we found this property. This place did not disappoint as everything matched our expectations and more. Glad we booked with Lara and wouldn’t hesitate to come again.

You will need a vehicle to get to and explore most of the area. The roads leading to the house are all state maintained and kept plowed during snows though not major thoroughfares so traffic is sporadic. There are not any steep inclines between downtown Lansing and the house.
